For our online classes, we have adapted our content to foster connection in this disconnected time. Allowing people to come together from the comfort of their own home and enjoy the same improv learning and fun that they would experience in person!
Born and raised in Nairobi, Sehar Manji is now a Montreal-based improvisor, improv teacher, actor, writer, standup and sketch comedian. She started improvising with Montreal improv in 2010 and regularly performs (improv, comedy, storytelling) on stages around the city and in local festivals. She has also performed in Toronto, New York and Vancouver.
Kyla is a mystery because hey not everyone wants their info online! Trust us, she is a wonderful improv teacher with a wealth of experience and passion for the craft.
JoeConto has been training, performing, teaching and coaching at Montreal Improv for over a decade. He has taught courses at all levels and nearly all formats. He was a founding member of MIT’s House Team series and Threepio competition. His feedback is well known for being concise, specific and honest.
Mariana is an experienced performer and teacher who is excited to enter this new virtual classroom. She is a member of the musical improv troupe The Jazz Ands and the puppet improv collective Heart Felt. She will likely be photo-bombed by her three pets.
Jeff Gandell is the creator of Yarn, a storytelling show that ran from 2012-2018. He has performed widely at storytelling events like Risk and Confabulation. He’s written and performed in three true-life storytelling shows: The Balding, Things Drugs Taught Me, and Danger Unit. He teaches English at Dawson College.
Dale Bernier is a performer, teacher and venue manager at Montreal Improv. He has performed with various troupes at the festivals all over north america. He has been a teacher/coach for 6 years at Montreal Improv and enjoys teaching students new techniques and philosophies to help them succeed and have the most fun at improv.

Beginner: "The First Step" with Sehar Manji [Sold Out]
NEW AFTERNOON TIME!Tuesdays 1 to 2:30pm, 4 weeks, June 23rd to July 14thIf you haven't done improv before, this is where you get comfortable with learning to listen to yourself and others, to create spontaneously in the moment. Intermediate: "Jumping Into Long-Form Online!" with Dale Bernier [Sold Out]
Wednesdays, 7 to 9pm, 4 weeks, June 17th to July 8th.This class will transition students from doing single scenes to creating long form sets based on a singular suggestion. It will be ideal for learning how to play with others and work in a team dynamic. You will receive all of the tools that are needed for long-form sets while getting used to doing comedy online. You will learn how to use a suggestion, do edits, tag outs and callbacks whilst also working on the content of your scenes.Experience: You have practiced improv enough to be comfortable with it's concepts. Short Form: "Playing On Purpose" with Joe Conto [Sold Out]
Sundays 1 to 2:30pm, 4 weeks, June 14th to July 5th.Short Form Games, featured on television shows like “Whose Line Is It Anyway”, are the cornerstone of many Improv performances. In addition to entertaining audiences, these games provide students of Improv the opportunity to practice skills like justification, fluid thinking, emotional change, collaboration, endowment, playfulness and active listening. These same skills can be applied to Long-Form Improv training and performance as well as day-to-day interpersonal relationships. Advanced: "Finding the Heart of the Scene" with Kyla Margaret [Sold Out]
Thursdays, 7 to 9pm, 4 weeks, June 18th to July 9th.The focus of this class is on getting to the heart of what is happening in our scenes. The heart of the scene is what is fun about it or compelling about it; it creates the momentum that carries action forward, propels discovery, and makes the scene feel more like play than work. In this class, we will look to find and play at the heart of the scene.Experience: You have practiced improv enough to be comfortable with it's concepts. You are very comfortable with scene work and blocking is in your rearview mirror.Class size: 10
True-Life Storytelling: "The Sound of Your Story" with Jeff Gandell [Sold Out]
Mondays 7 to 9pm, 6 weeks and an online audio show, June 15th to July 27thThis class will give you the tools to transform the raw material of your life into moving and entertaining stories. The goal will be to produce a seven-minute audio performance of your story. Topics include: finding ideas, using images, structure, and more. We'll take the opportunity of the online format to focus specifically on the sound of your story: your voice as an instrument, characters, dialogue, etc. Expect 2 hours of homework per week. Experience: No experience needed.Class size: 12
